THE SONS OF SPEEDWAY
TWO FRIENDS, both products of the industrial Midlands, met for a pint in Soho. One, an accomplished musician who had played in many a band asked the other, who had written a few lyrics in his time, ‘Got any Words?”
The result ended up being an album’s worth of tunes. Some country, some soul, some rock ’n’ roll and even a touch of gospel.“What shall we call it?” said one to the other. Childhood memories of freezing, wet nights
in Coventry and Birmingham watching their heroes defy death on two wheels provided the answer, “Dirt Tracks!”
And so The Sons of Speedway were born.
